A daily check-in app for seniors living alone.

Silver Activities has recently launched an app called AllsOK, a daily check-in app, ensuring safety and peace of mind for seniors living alone as well as individuals with dependents. Currently, it is the only app developed in Singapore for daily check-ins available to the public. It is similar to another daily check-in app in the US called Snug Safety, which is being offered free as well as paid and is only available in the US.

Easy to setup, users of AllsOK receive daily reminders to check in at the user’s scheduled time. Once the reminder comes on, the user needs to press the button to acknowledge the reminder.

However, if the user doesn’t respond within an hour of the scheduled time, an e-mail will be sent to the user’s trusted contact. The app is currently available at Google Play for an annual subscription of S$20. Silver Activities emphasised that this app is not to be confused with an SOS app, which is intended for emergency use.

Silver Activities is a company that has been around for six years, that develops easy-to-use products and apps for seniors to enable them to have increased independence, avoid social isolation and stay engaged. The company is a team of neuroscientists, developers and game designers. Other products that it has developed include the SilverPad, a tablet targeted to seniors that contains cognitive games and local content, and is available in English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil.

A launcher

Silver Activities has also developed an app called ONY Phone, which was launched almost two years ago. This is a smartphone launcher app with intuitively designed features to help seniors connect with loved ones and be a part of the tech world. It has larger icons and text so users can find their favourite apps with ease.

Users of AllsOK receive daily reminders to check in at the user’s scheduled time. Once the reminder comes on, the user needs to press the button to acknowledge the reminder.

Asked how many have since downloaded it, Silver Activities shared: “ONY Phone app (and AllsOK app) is available globally and can be installed by anyone anywhere in the world. So, it’s difficult to provide a specific user count for Singapore alone. Given that the ONY Phone app supports many languages, we’ve already had more than 30K+ users install the app as of now globally.”

Unlike having to scroll through several options, ONY Phone shows users the settings they need in a simple layout, be it changing the WIFI settings, volume, etc. Users can even personalise their ONY Phone with various colour themes. The app is also equipped to be in English, Mandarin and other languages.

Added Silver Activities on the ONY Phone: “Seniors like the intuitive interface and simple settings with a modern vibrant design. Often, caregivers purchase it for their elderly loved ones to prevent accidental changes to settings. The ONY Phone app also features an AIR mode that restricts access to Android settings, ensuring ease of use and peace of mind for seniors.”

ONY Phone is only available on Google Play for a one-time purchase of S$12.99. “The ONY Phone app functions as a launcher, replacing the default home screen, which Apple’s iOS does not support. So while we would love to cater to senior iPhone users, it is technically not feasible. However, for AllsOK, we plan to release an iOS version soon.”

What’s next?

So what’s the next product launch for Silver Activities? The company is developing HelloHuggs, a new service where seniors living alone can receive a phone call to check-in on them. This option is designed for those who may not be tech-savvy or prefer a more personal touch than interacting with a screen, as required by the AllsOK app.
