Find out what these are and how men can benefit from them.

Testosterone plays a vital role in the libido for men. As men get older, the levels of testosterone in their blood often drop. This has been hypothesised to lead to various things such as decreased sexual function, anaemia and bone breaks. Did you know that some foods can boost one’s testosterone level?

Dr Muhd Taufiq Rashid, a resident doctor at DTAP Clinic at Somerset, shares his top seven testosterone-boosting foods and how men can benefit from these:

#4 – Egg yolks

Egg yolks may have gotten a bad rep for cholesterol. However, the cholesterol from egg yolk is a precursor to testosterone in our body. So, it’s very good to boost testosterone but do take it in moderation as you wouldn’t want to take in too much cholesterol.

#5 – Shellfish

Also, notorious for increasing blood cholesterol, shellfish and crustaceans have a high level of zinc. The Alaskan king crab has one of the highest – just three ounces of it contains 43 percent of your daily zinc requirement. Once again, please take in moderation as too much may increase your cholesterol levels.

Different parts and cuts of beef have different benefits for testosterone. Beef liver is high in Vitamin D while chuck roast and ground beef are high in zinc. Again, too much beef may increase cholesterol levels and increase your risk for colon cancer.

Milk is a good source of Vitamin D. It’s also a good source of protein and calcium.

“Whatever food that you choose to take on a regular basis, just remember to take them in moderation. Supplement your diet with a healthy active lifestyle and do speak to your local doctor to see if what you are doing is enough,” said Dr Taufiq.
