NYP creates watch for the deaf
The BRACER Watch will also be useful for seniors so they can be alerted of loud audio sounds.

The watch vibrates and lights up when it senses loud audio signals like car horns and fire alarms, alerting users and saving lives. Created by students and staff from Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP), the BRACER Watch can alert youths who are distracted with other tasks and may not be fully aware of their surroundings, as well as seniors and those who are deaf and hard of hearing. The watch can also be used by workers who need devices that indicate unsafe levels as part of workplace safety.
Besides picking up loud sounds, the BRACER Watch provides a digital clock function with a day and night display mode, and it can sense audio signals of high decibel using three different levels of signal detection. Its battery can last up to 150 days per charge.
Prior to its launch, a trial of the watch was conducted with six members of The Singapore Association for the Deaf (SADeaf). During the three weeks, they assessed its effectiveness in alerting users through vibration and flashing LED indicators of potential dangers in Singapore’s urban environment. The feedback was “generally” positive.
