A siew dai cookie?
Concerned about your sugar intake, no worries in this new version of Subway’s chocolate chip cookie.
Subway’s most popular chocolate chip cookie has been given a makeover of sorts – it has been localised and its sugar content reduced. Now called “Chocolate Chip Cookie Siew Dai” (siew dai meaning less sugar in Hokkien), this new version has been launched since February of this year.
According to Alchemy Foodtech, a Singapore-based carbohydrates and sugar reduction food technology company, who played a part in this makeover, the sugar content in the original chocolate chip version has been reduced from 17.5g to almost half in the newer version, and still maintains the “same amount of chocolate goodness”.
With the growing demand for healthier food options as more than one in three adults are overweight and one in 10 adults are living with diabetes, this news couldn’t happen at a better time. So go ahead and sink your teeth into the cookie without guilt.
Subway’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Siew Dai retails from S$1.70 and is available islandwide in participating Subway outlets, Grab, Foodpanda, and Deliveroo delivery platforms.
