An online chat service

by | July 7, 2020

To support survivors of abuse and violence, AWARE has an online chat and call-back service.

In April 2020, AWARE’s Helpline saw a whopping 112 percent increase over family violence calls received in April 2019. Over the month, the not-for-profit organisation received a total of 596 calls. On April 14 alone, it got 43 calls – the most ever received on a single day since its Helpline opened in 1991.

With this sobering news, AWARE has an online chat and call-back service to better support survivors of abuse and violence. Women in distress can schedule a 30-minute appointment to chat with a trained staff member or volunteer. The chat service is available over Zoom and is for those who have experienced or are currently experiencing abuse and violence, who are unable to find a safe space to speak on the phone. Note that for this chat, the text chat function over Zoom is used and not the video or audio functions. If you wish to remain anonymous, you may use a pseudonym.

If you need urgent support relating to family violence, please reach out to your closest Family Service Centre (FSC), Family Violence Specialist Centre (call ComCare on 1800-222-0000 to find your closest one) or the police by calling 999. To search for your closest FSC, go to the MSF website HERE.
