Bringing awareness of eye conditions

An eye care book sheds light on the common eye conditions including cataract and glaucoma, and offers eye care tips.

The eyes are windows to the body’s health, and performing most daily tasks would be challenging or even impossible with impaired vision, yet there is not enough emphasis placed on eye health. Ophthalmologist and eye surgeon Dr Claudine Pang, medical director of Asia Retina Eye Surgery Centre and founder of non-profit organisation Eye Care Without Borders, has come up with an reference book that describes and explains the most common eye conditions.

The 170-page “Eye Care For All” offers basic eye care tips and insights to commonly posed questions regarding eye concerns and conditions. Organised into two main sections, the first section of “Common Eye Concerns” is a five-minute question-and-answer guide that addresses the most common eye symptoms and their salient features such as eye itching, sore eyes, eye floaters and excessive watering of the eyes.

The second section is on “Common Eye Conditions”, delving deeper into the more common eye diseases that affect the population including styes, the dry eye syndrome, cataract and glaucoma. The sections are accompanied by content that is readable to all, keeping them well-informed and equipped on how to prevent them from getting these eye conditions, and what to expect when seeking help from an eye professional.

Eye Care For All is available at leading bookstores and newsstands at S$5 for the soft cover version, and available at Asia Retina Eye Surgery Centre, Paragon #15-10 at S$25 for the hard cover version. Proceeds of the book will go to Eye Care Without Borders, which provides eye care and eyewear to those in underprivileged societies in Singapore and developing countries.
