C3A’s chairman Gerard Ee steps down
After seven years, the baton is being passed to a broadcast veteran.

Gerard Ee is stepping down from the Council for Third Age (C3A) after seven years of promoting active ageing in Singapore. Ee, who was recently appointed the new chair and chancellor for UniSim, will pass on the baton to a broadcast veteran, Chua Foo Yong. Besides his new role, Ee is also the elected president of the national accountancy body, Singapore Chartered Accountant (ISCA), and is currently the chairman of Changi General Hospital (CGH) and the Eastern Health Alliance, a regional health system for the people of eastern Singapore.
C3A, which was set up by Ee seven years ago to promote active ageing in Singapore, has seen an increasing number of seniors seeking new interests and activities to lead an active lifestyle. He has contributed to the growth of the Council, from its earlier days of organising numerous outreach events, to its present day of being a catalyst in the active ageing landscape.
He also played a key role leading the organisation two years ago to focus on working with and through partners so as to scale up programmes and initiatives to benefit more seniors in Singapore. One of Ee’s brainchild is the C3A Web portal, a platform which he believes will be the central system integrating all the players in the landscape, with C3A’s role to connect all the dots.

“It is gratifying to see how the active ageing landscape in Singapore has evolved over the years. The perception of seniors is starting to shift as seniors themselves take greater personal responsibility to empower themselves with various options to lead an active and meaningful life.
“More and more seniors are recognising that there are many opportunities out there for them to explore to keep themselves engaged. Lifelong learning has also become more prevalent among the seniors. We have come a long way, and there’s still lots to be done, especially with the diversified needs of the different cohort of seniors,” said Ee.
Noting this, there will be lots to be done for his successor, Chua, who was on the C3A board since 2007. She brings her experience in the local media industry as the former CEO of Radio Corporation Singapore, MediaCorp TV and the founder of the Singapore Media Academy.
