Help out in an arts-based community engagement on end-of-life issues for at least one year.

 

Both Sides, Now is an arts-based community engagement on end-of-life issues that was first presented in 2013, and again in 2014. The third iteration will take place over three years, and co-presenters Drama Box and ArtsWok Collaborative will be working with Montfort Care Good Death and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital to reach out to seniors and the wider community living in Telok Blangah and Chong Pang respectively, through different programmes and arts experiences.

The project aims to create end-of-life friendly communities where end-of-life discussions are normalised and where individuals and families are supported in making informed decisions about living well and leaving with dignity.

The project is recruiting volunteers to help in a number of ways including:

• Door-to-door outreach – Volunteers will reach out to seniors living in selected blocks to better understand their interests and needs concerning end-of-life matters.
• Buddy to seniors – Each volunteer will be paired with a senior over a series of workshops to create artworks that will be shared with the wider public.
• Community engagement facilitators during performances and events – Volunteers will provide on-site support during events and performances, e.g. befriending, ushering, distribution of flyers, etc.

The criteria for volunteering includes the ability to communicate comfortably in English or Mandarin, feel comfortable interacting with seniors and people from all walks of life, and commit to a project briefing and a volunteer training workshop (average of eight hours). Volunteers must be able to commit to the project for at least one year.
