Sony has introduced its latest range of entry-level Alpha cameras – the 290 and the 390. Designed to be lightweight, compact and stylish, the two cameras can easily capture high-resolution images using the 14.2-megapixel (effective) CCD image sensor and BIONZ image-processing engine. They also sport a new ergonomic grip, making them ideal for first-time DSLR users to snap photos on the go.

However, what makes the 390 stand out is Sony’s exclusive Quick AF Live View, which offers users the speed and accuracy of phase-detection auto-focusing even when using the LCD screen to frame their subjects. The 390 also features a variable-angle 2.7-inch LCD screen that can be tilted 55 degrees downwards and 135 degrees upwards, offering more freedom for shooting angles. This particularly makes it easier for photographers to shoot images above the crowd during a free-standing concert and also comfortably take eye-level photos of pets and small children. Furthermore, both cameras are equipped with a mini HDMI terminal for faster data transfers and smoother playback.

The Alpha 390 comes in A390L with all-purpose lens at $899 and A390Y with all-purpose lens and two telephoto zoom lens at $1,199. The Alpha 290 comes in A290L and A290Y (same as the above) at $699 and $999 respectively. Till end August, consumers who purchase the 390 and 290, get a 8GB memory stick, LowePro bag and a Sony Design Workshop course. Both cameras are available at Sony Style stores and other authorised dealers.
