This new competition seeks breakthrough innovations that improve the health of people as they age.

The US National Academy of Medicine (NAM), in collaboration with several global organisations including the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the National Research Foundation Singapore (NRF), has launched the Healthy Longevity Global Competition, that seeks breakthrough innovations that improve the physical, mental or social well-being of people as they age.

The multi-year, multi-million-dollar international competition is calling for teams as well as individuals from any fields including biomedicine, behavioural science, sociology, engineering and infrastructure, technology and policy. It seeks to get ideas in areas such as disease prevention, urban planning, molecular pathways, social connectedness, technology, and more.

The competition consists of three phases internationally including Catalyst Phase (provides seed funding to advance new, innovative ideas), Accelerator Phase (demonstrates significant progress to the ideas), and Grand Prize (one or more grand prizes to be awarded for achievement of a breakthrough innovation). The call for applications will happen in January 2020 and the deadline for project proposal submission is February 2020. Results will be announced in July 2020.
