Seniors get to work out for free in the city’s new studio.

senior doing yogaAs Singapore crosses the big five-zero mark this year, Australia’s leading natural health brand, Blackmores, and Asia’s largest fitness community, GuavaPass, have teamed up to offer complimentary Strala Yoga classes for senior Singaporeans. There are four free classes available from August 20 to 28.

Specially designed to help older adults stay active, the classes will be held in GuavaLabs, Singapore’s new hybrid fitness studio located in Mandarin Gallery. Blackmores health experts will also be present at the classes to provide participants with nutrition advice for active ageing.

Strala Yoga focuses on slow, calm and flowing motions that help people to move with ease, strengthen their bodies and soothe their minds. These easy-to-master techniques create a healthy balance between flexibility, stability and mobility that is ideal for older Singaporeans. Classes are open to all residents aged 50 and above, and their friends and family are also welcome to come along.

Sarah Lee, product manager of Blackmores Singapore: “Singapore is full of exciting fitness activities but there are fewer options that cater to older Singaporeans who are still very young-at-heart. Through our partnership with GuavaPass, we hope not only to encourage our seniors to get active but also to inspire more positive ideas of ageing. After all, at Blackmores, we believe that turning 50 is just the start of a new and exciting chapter in your life.”

To help seniors meet their nutritional needs for active ageing, Blackmores’ range of ageing products will also be on sale at Watsons, Guardian and Unity (promotion varies in different stores) stores islandwide. These supplements address age-related health concerns from joint, heart, eye and everyday health with some highlighted products as follows:

• Glucosamine Sulfate 1500mg for strengthening weak joints (35-percent off)
• Lutein Defence for protecting vision (35-percent off).
• Proactive Multi For 50+ to provide comprehensive overall wellness (35-percent off).
• Odourless Fish Oil 1000 for maintenance of heart, brain and joint health (two for the price of one).

Added Rhyce Lein, general manager of GuavaPass: “Most of our members are from younger demographic and by working together with Blackmores, we want to help our seniors get better with age, just as we have done as a nation.”
