Kind-hearted individuals have started ground-up initiatives to help those in need and to appreciate healthcare workers.

Some kind-hearted individuals have started ground-up initiatives to help those vulnerable and appreciate healthcare workers during this current situation, according to an article by The Singapore Conscience. A Good Space, a community of changemakers who care about different issues in Singapore, started to compile a list of initiatives online to serve as a central database to galvanise efforts to connect changemakers with others who want and have resources to help.

Here are some initiatives:

• Mask Go Share – is a platform by Better.sg, a volunteer-run non-profit society, for neighbours to share masks and hand sanitisers. It also has a list of all of the one- and two-room HDB rental flats so Singaporeans that stay nearby could consider sharing their supplies.
• Contribute.sg – aims to collect new surgical or N95 masks and other sanitising items that one might not need and can pass it forward. The site allows one to put their location and finds where the items can then be donated to.
• PARK $2 Project (P2P) – is a Facebook group for friends to share and spread kindness.
• #braveheartSG – from the same team behind StandUpFor.SG. They are looking to get the public to show appreciation for healthcare workers and medical staff. They want to put together care packages of snacks and drinks, and delivers handwritten notes to more than 5,000 medical staff on Valentine’s Day.
• Operation #Boostershot – is a fundraiser on platform, Ray of Hope, that was crowdfunding donations to pay for “caffeine boosts” of healthcare workers. Their initial target was S$25,000 and they have since surpassed that amount. Fundraising has already ended.

And most recently, Community Chest is helping to channel donations to The Courage Fund, which was established in 2003 when Singapore was hit by the SARS outbreak, to support vulnerable individuals and families in need affected by the current COVID-19 situation. In tandem with this fundraising effort, the National Council of Social Service (NCSS) is also facilitating in-kind donations of essential supplies such as masks, sanitisers and thermometers to support the social service agencies.
