A silver marketplace

Come November, a new trade and consumer event called ELDEX will be launched.

With Singapore’s rapidly ageing population and one that is also happening around the world, organiser Fireworks Muziyi Media is jumping on this trend and launching a trade and consumer event called the Eldercare Exhibition & Conference Asia (ELDEX).

Joseph Yeo, project director, explained, “While there are numerous similar events scattered across the region, there remains gaps to be plugged in the ever-evolving silver economy space. Few events fully address the entire spectrum of the multi-faceted silver economy. The supply chain catering to the silver economy is extensive and growing. For instance, the ageing process impacts each market and industry including but not limited to personal home needs, health and wellness, the food and transport industry, financial and insurance, and more. ELDEX aims to address each element and achieve greater entirety progressively. Ageing touches not just the physical but also mental and emotional aspects. It is a complex and diverse sector.”

The event to be held from 8 to 10 November this year at Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre will feature a one-day medical conference targeting healthcare professionals, as well as workshops on topics like dementia and caregiver support over two days. The exhibition, which will be open to the public on the 9 and 10 November, will have exhibitors covering six key areas – lifestyle and wellness; architecture and fittings; healthcare and rehabilitation; technology, digital and IT; finance, insurance and other services; and “the great beyond” with exhibitors offering funeral services and afterlife family support.

“ELDEX aims to create an effective marketplace for international silver economy suppliers to meet and engage with targeted Asia-Pacific trade visitors and end-users including distributors, retailers, developers, caregivers, buyers such as hospitals, retirement homes and hospices,” said Joseph.

Besides the exhibition and conference, ELDEX will also be bringing start-ups and technology companies in the eldercare space to interact with and pitch to potential investors (foundations, private equity and venture capitalists), particularly where gerontechnology and the greater utilisation of data-analytics, geo-spatial location, tele-presence, Internet of Things and wearable technology among others are concerned.
