The National Library Board holds a month-long online festival where you can get inspired by other seniors and gain insights from experts.

The National Library Board (NLB) is organising a month-long online festival event from October 1 to 31 called the Time of Your Life Celebration 2020. This event is held in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS)’s gerontology programme and the International Day of Older Persons which is on October 1.

Through this festival, participants will be able to gain valuable insights from local and overseas gerontology experts, particularly on how individual and collective efforts can engender a positive ageing experience for all, and be inspired by talks of seniors from all walks of life, living the time of their lives.

There are 17 programmes altogether – nine of them belonging to the Industry Expert Series, the other five under 5X10X15, and the remaining three in Interest Groups Go Online.

  • Industry Expert Series – learn from industry experts and professionals from various organisations through online seminars, panel discussions and workshops that discuss issues related to gerontology. Topics include: Opportunities and challenges of lifelong learning for seniors; silver volunteerism – your impact and legacy; ageism in our society and the workplace; silver pleasures – life’s gifts; silver pleasures – happiness and meaning in life; gerontology and technology – innovation and care (post COVID-19); gerontology and technology – geron-technology startup opportunities; silver voices – writing your memoir workshop; and silver voices – communication and raising collective wisdom in the community.
  • 5X10X15 – meet your peers who truly live up to the mantra “Happiness is a choice you make”. This programme brings together seniors who will share what sparks joy and purpose in each of their lives, from travel photography to forming a band.
  • Interest Groups Go Online – where seniors share about how libraries’ learning communities enable them to live life to the fullest.

The programmes will be hosted on Zoom as well as via livestream on the Public Libraries Singapore Facebook page. To sign up, go to: go.gov.sg/toyl2020signup.
