Aviva Singapore covers allergic reactions arising from COVID-19 vaccinations

by | January 7, 2021

The insurer extends its health insurance coverage to medical expenses arising from side effects to the vaccine.

Individuals insured by Aviva Singapore’s health insurance plans will automatically be covered for side effects arising from the COVID-19 vaccination, at no additional premium. Aviva Singapore will provide coverage of the medical bills should policyholders suffer side effects that require hospitalisation or inpatient treatment, such as a severe allergic reaction. This coverage is included for their Integrated Shield Plan, MyShield, as well as group health insurance plans.

The vaccine must be authorised by the Health Sciences Authority and the individual must be medically-eligible to receive it. The standard terms and conditions of the policies apply.

Daniel Lum, director of product and marketing at Aviva Singapore, said, “We made this decision to assure Aviva’s policyholders who may have concerns about medical expenses should they encounter side effects from the vaccine. As an insurer, it is our responsibility to act quickly and meet the evolving needs and apprehensions of individuals, thus ensuring the country’s national vaccination effort can run smoothly.”
