IDA calls for nominations for this year for IT-savvy seniors to encourage other seniors to use IT and social media.

IDA is calling for IT-savvy seniors to become Silver Infocomm Wellness Ambassadors.

Evelyn Wong picked up information and communications technology (ICT) skills through her workplace. In 2009, she came across the Silver Infocomm Junction (SJI) at Paya Lebar Kovan Community Club (CC) where seniors could learn ICT skills. As she had stopped working then and is patient and has a passion in teaching, she decided to volunteer her time at the CC as a cyberguide to assist the trainer in guiding seniors to learn ICT skills.

She also uses ICT applications in her life and finds that they make a great difference by bringing a lot of convenience to her. She not only does online transactions such as paying bills, she also purchases her groceries online and shares photos and videos with family members and friends using Facebook. She was one of 28 Silver Infocomm Wellness Ambassadors last year.

If you are like Evelyn, an IT-savvy senior who actively embraces information and ICT in your daily life, and have inspired your peers to use ICT to enhance their lives and well-being, the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) is looking for you to become this year’s batch of Silver Infocomm Wellness Ambassadors. This initiative, which was launched in 2012, is spearheaded by IDA and the People’s Association Active Ageing Council (PAAAC), in collaboration with the Council for Third Age (C3A).

The Silver Infocomm Wellness Ambassadors encourage other seniors to learn to use IT and social media to expand their knowledge, pursue their hobbies and interests, and stay connected with the rest of the community. One of the roles of the ambassadors is to lead IT Interest Groups formed under the PA Wellness Programme, where seniors come together to learn and explore basic IT skills such as smartphone clinics or social media knowledge such as Facebook.

If you know a friend who has inspired others, you may nominate that person too. Those selected ambassadors will each receive a S$100 voucher and a commemorative souvenir. To register, go to: www.c3a.org.sg/siwa. Nominations close on July 31, 2015. For any enquiries, please e-mail IDA_SII@ida.gov.sg or call 6684 8858.
