Be safe, smart & kind seniors

The Media Literacy Council’s Internet campaign brings awareness on fake news, scams, etc.

This year’s Better Internet Campaign (BIC) with the tagline “Be Safe, Be Smart & Be Kind Online” is not only targeting youths and parents, but also creating awareness for seniors on fake news, scams, etc. There will also be a few community efforts by winning student-led community initiatives supported under the Better Internet x Youths Call for Proposals (CFP) that was launched by the Media Literacy Council (MLC) last year. Two of these proposals are targeted to seniors.

Republic Polytechnic will be holding two free workshops on April 21 and 28 for seniors on digital literacy at Canberra Community Centre. Participants can register at any community club and centre located within Sembawang GRC. Youth student leaders will help seniors pick up digital skills and knowledge.

Temasek Polytechnic’s proposal also involves seniors. There will be a five Web videos launched in late May or early June featuring a game show where seniors are quizzed on the authenticity of news. The aim here is to promote info-literacy skills in a light-hearted manner. For further details, check out the website – www.betterinternet.sg.
