A new device helps to reduce swelling, pain and discomfort in the lower legs.

Want to improve your blood circulation and reduce swelling, pain and discomfort in your lower legs? You can do so in the comfort of your home with Singapore’s first medically-registered device, Revitive IX (left). Poor circulation occurs when there is inadequate supply of blood flow to a particular area of the body such as in the hands, legs, ankles and feet. Symptoms can include aches, tiredness and swelling to numbness, cramps and coldness.

Developed and tested by researchers in the UK, the Revitive IX uses electrical muscle stimulation and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation technology to stimulate the thousands of nerve endings on the soles of the feet. It also features the IsoRocker System, which gently and involuntarily allows a rocking motion to further enhance the circulation process, and improve the mobility and flexibility of the ankle joint.

Research shows that 80 percent of Singaporeans suffer from poor venous circulation in their legs, with the majority of them afflicted with aches, pains, cramps and swelling in their lower legs due to impaired blood returns, according to Dr John Tan, a vascular surgeon at The Vein Clinic. “By treating the condition early, we can significantly boost their general well-being and may help prevent more severe leg problems in the long-run,” he said.

Convenient and easy to operate, users require only 20 to 30 minutes a day for best results. The device has 99 intensity levels to suit individual requirements. The device comes with a remote control, four TENS body pads to target specific areas on the legs and body parts, and a detailed user manual. Also available at retailers are the foot and leg gel, TENS electrode pads, and gloves to be used with the Revitive IX.

Retailing at S$499, Revitive IX is available at Guardian, Watsons and Unity pharmacies, and stores such as Courts, Best Denki, Harvey Norman and OG.
