Not all calcium supplements are the same.

Taking these supplements, which carry concentrated doses of calcium, will increase the blood calcium level for four to six hours, and goes up to the top end of the normal range. This does not happen when you consume calcium in your diet because calcium from food is slowly absorbed. Higher blood calcium may lead to the formation of plaque, or fatty deposits in blood vessels, which can lead to heart attack, stroke, and other cardiovascular diseases.
