Getting the right calcium

Not all calcium supplements are the same.

Omical is a pure milk mineral complex.

Calcium is vital for healthy bones, teeth and gums. It also helps with healthy cell function, blood pressure control, nerve transmission, and healthy muscle function. However, getting the right calcium is important. In a report on calcium supplements, Dr Jimmy Gutman, senior medical advisor, Immunotec Inc, highlighted that calcium supplements that contain salt of calcium like calcium carbonate, calcium gluconate and others are from questionable sources. He said: “Some sources of calcium include crushed up horse bones, fossils or even crushed up oyster shells, all of which carry potential contamination with toxic substances like lead or mercury.”

Consuming unnatural calcium supplements may increase the risk of cardiovascular related disease by 30 percent. Taking these supplements, which carry concentrated doses of calcium, will increase the blood calcium level for four to six hours, and goes up to the top end of the normal range. This does not happen when you consume calcium in your diet because calcium from food is slowly absorbed. Higher blood calcium may lead to the formation of plaque, or fatty deposits in blood vessels, which can lead to heart attack, stroke, and other cardiovascular diseases.

Omical is not just another calcium supplement, it is a pure milk mineral complex in a convenient caplet form where the milk minerals have been specifically extracted and then purified. Omical involves many components including magnesium, vitamin D, phosphorus, potassium, iron, zinc, copper, and more. These minerals are combined to reflect almost similar make-up to our human bone. Therefore, consuming Omical is a safer option as compared to consuming calcium from salts of calcium (e.g. calcium carbonate), which is also used to make products like chalk.

Omical is made from organic milk, which is fat-free and suitable for lactose intolerant individuals, allowing optimal calcium absorption into the bones. Furthermore, Omical has no trace of toxic metals such as lead, mercury and arsenic, as confirmed through a laboratory test by the Health Science Authority in Singapore.

Omical is available at leading pharmacies Guardian, Watsons, Unity, Mustafa as well as selected independent retailers. It costs is S$31.90 for a bottle of 60 tablets.
