Grow, give or MOVE

Getting men more aware about their health issues including prostate cancer and poor mental health.

The Movember Foundation’ MOVE is a new way to raise funds and awareness for unspoken men’s health issues. In its fourth year in Singapore, Movember is an annual month-long charity initiative in November that encourages men to grow a Mo (slang for moustache) and effectively become walking, talking billboards for men’s health issues including prostate cancer and poor mental health. In 2014 alone, more than 3,500 people in Singapore took part, raising over S$700,000 to fund local men’s health programmes overseen by health partner Singapore Cancer Society (SCS).

This year, Movember has introduced MOVE, a new initiative to help fight the rising levels of inactivity in men. MOVE is a 30-day fitness challenge to raise funds and awareness for men’s health. How Singaporeans MOVE is up to them – a one-day workout, a game of table tennis or an epic bike ride. MOVE is all about shaking up routines and rallying members of the community to champion their own movement all in the name of men’s health.

Mo Bros and Mo Sistas can look forward to special perks and exclusive invites to Movember events including Moga Bootcamp by Yoga Collective, Gentlemen’s Soiree at CATO, and several Mo fitness circuits with Movember’s MOVE partners in Singapore. Movember will always be centred around the moustache, challenging Mo Bros to grow and Mo Sistas to support their hairy efforts, getting everyone to be an active champion of men’s health.

Working together with SCS, Movember aims to change established habits and attitudes men have about their health, to educate men about the health risks they face, and to act on that knowledge, thereby increasing the chances of early detection, diagnosis and effective treatment. The funds raised in Singapore support SCS and are distributed directly to the areas of awareness and education, survivorship, research and health aid for men living with prostate cancer.
