by | November 9, 2014

A resource of information to assist caregivers throughout the entire journey of caregiving from health to sickness.

A guidebook for caregivers.

Tan Tock Seng Hospital’s (TTSH) Institute of Geriatric and Active Ageing (IGA) has launched a guidebook to equip caregivers with knowledge and tips on how to better care for older adults in health and sickness. It has advice from managing the older adult’s chronic diseases, dementia, fall prevention, wound care and terminal discharge, to self-care for the caregiver.

Titled “Ageing with Grace: The Complete Caregiver’s Guide” and launched in conjunction with World Alzheimer’s Day event organised by IGA, the guidebook has contributions from over 40 multi-disciplinary healthcare professionals in TTSH including geriatricians, palliative care physicians and family physicians involved in eldercare. The guidebook also has step-by-step instructions with photographs in the areas of exercise, diet planning, urinary catheter management and more.

The guidebook has three parts including:

Preventive Geriatrics – inspires caregivers and older adults to look forward to retirement, active ageing, and understand the preventive aspects of care.

• Frailty Sets In – empowers readers with knowledge and skills for common ageing conditions.

End-Of-Life – emboldens readers to focus on quality of life and care towards comfort and dignity at the end-of-life.

In addition, the guidebook highlights available resources in the community for caregivers and patients. Priced at S$28 (before GST), the guidebook is available at all leading bookstores.
